Our History

2001
A proprietary mobile device for networking at events

SpotMe was born from the invention of a handheld device that enabled event attendees to find each other, break down barriers, and connect. Spotting someone inspired our name and our purpose. On May 23, 2001, we served our first paying customer event—an event that got the attention of The Wall Street Journal, Fortune magazine, and many others. That creative, entrepreneurial spirit lives on and drives our continued aspiration for more meaningful and productive meetings, and the ease in which they are run.

2007
Launch of SpotMe II

The SpotMe II was our updated mobile event device, with new features and a color screen. Some of its capabilities, like the radar function, are still beyond today’s smartphones and served as the foundation of our current SpotMe platform. This innovative device fueled our company’s rapid international growth.

2011
Pivot to Mobile App Technology

Once we had a mobile event app that was up to our demanding standards, and the public’s expectations, from the SpotMe 2 device, we went to market with full support for the two leading mobile operating systems — iOS and Android.

2016
Enter Solution-Centric Delivery

SpotMe enters a new technology cycle with the adoption of a mobile-first, Enter Solution-Centric Delivery. Event apps no longer reflect a one-size-fits-all approach. Planners seek technology solutions to create strategic events, solve business obstacles, optimise app design, and deepen participant engagement. SpotMe becomes the only mobile event app to successfully use business intelligence data to enhance the participant experience.

Once we had a mobile event app that was up to our demanding standards, and our customers’ expectations, we dropped our beloved proprietary hardware technology and pivoted toward a pure software model. While we had a new business model, our purpose and our mission remained unchanged.

Enter Solution-Centric Delivery
With the event industry witnessing a commoditization of event apps, SpotMe concluded that the one-size-fits-all approach would not be sufficient to serve our brand's mission and so we restructured our professional services team and redesigned our application modules to deliver targeted solutions that solve our customers’ business challenges – for healthcare, business leadership, learning & development or societies.
