Engagement App (mobile)

  • Without any engagement instances installed (events), our app takes less than 30 MB. Average size of an engagement instance, once downloaded to a device, ranges from 40 MB to more.
  • Devices with Android-based operating system such as Kindle Fire or devices with Android app emulation (BlackBerry 10, Sailfish, etc.) are not supported.
  • App is officially distributed through Apple’s App Store, Google Play Store or MDM solutions used within your organization (such as Citrix and MobileIron). Apps downloaded from other distribution channels are not supported
  • Latest devices and OS releases are not immediately supported as they go through official testing and quality assurance processes.
  • To check if your device is supported, open the App Store or Play Store page of the app on a respective device. If it is compatible, the store will allow you to install it.

Network Requirements

  • We recommend that you use a Wi-Fi network or unlimited data plan to download the app. Downloading while you are on data roaming abroad may result in steep roaming charges.

Permissions

  • Depending of the platform our app or the distribution platform (App Store/Play Store) might prompt the user to allow access to specific hardware or an advanced feature of the platform.
  • Depending on the version of the Android device, users might be prompted to explicitly allow access to all of the permissions below or might be asked to do it as they try to activate a certain feature. Depending on the version of your device, names of these permissions might slightly vary.

iOS

Minimum version: iOS 9 iPhone 4s or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini or later, iPod touch (5th gen)

  • Camera
    To automatically update the content of the app and receive more frequent iBeacon notifications the App needs this permission when it’s not being used as a main app. Disabling this might improve battery usage, but will also affect the responsiveness of said features.
  • Background App Refresh
    To import contact details of a participant to address book on the device. Contacts other than the one being imported will not be accessed, modified or shared with the App.
  • Contacts
    Agenda items may be added to a calendar set-up on the device, for this to work App will need access to device’s calendars. Calendar entries other than the one being created will not be accessed, modified or shared with the App.
  • Calendar
    If an engagement instance (event) is utilizing iBeacons to provide location-aware updates, App will prompt for the permission to receive notifications of nearby iBeacons from iOS. No GPS or any other geo-localization will be ever performed by the App.
  • Location
    In order to deliver important notifications from event organizers, messages from other participants, live voting and other interactive features.
  • Push Notification
    When taking a profile photo or taking a photo in other features, participants can also upload photos from their libraries. Photo library will not be modified or shared with the App.
  • Photo Library
    For taking a profile photo, scanning QR-codes and taking and sharing photos with the built-in camera.

Android

Minimum version: Android 5.0 Lollipop

  • View network connections / full network access
    With these the App can automatically connect to SpotMe’s on-site servers when you are connected to an event’s Wi-Fi network, or to our cloud servers when you are off-site, optimizing your user experience. The App also uses this to inform you if no connection is found.
  • USB Storage / SD Card
    With these the App can automatically connect to SpotMe’s on-site servers when you are connected to an event’s Wi-Fi network, or to our cloud servers when you are off-site, optimizing your user experience. The App also uses this to inform you if no connection is found.
  • Retrieve Running Apps
    App uses this to reduce power consumption when it is invisible.
  • Pictures & Videos
    For taking a profile photo, scanning QR-codes and taking and sharing event photos with the built-in camera.
  • Bluetooth
    If an engagement instance (event) is utilizing iBeacons to provide location-aware updates, App will prompt for Bluetooth access in order to toggle device’s Bluetooth and detect nearby beacons. While beacons work over low-energy Bluetooth protocol (BLE), battery consumption might be slightly increased.
  • Fingerprint
    If additional security restrictions are set up for an engagement instance or the App, device’s fingerprint reader might be used as an authentication method.
  • Device Control
    Prevent device from sleeping / control vibration. App uses Google Cloud Messaging services to notify you of incoming messages from other participants.
  • Run at Startup
    For engagement instances (events) utilizing iBeacons, App will start a background process to scan for iBeacon signals during startup. If iBeacons aren’t used, App will not start itself during startup.

Engagement App (web)

For all browsers and platforms enable JavaScript and cookies. Connection to the Web App is done exclusively over HTTPS/TLS, with strict transport security enabled.
