The idea for Spotme came to one of our founders when he was sitting in a park. From his bench he observed how two dogs started to play with each other and subsequently their owners got engaged in a pleasurable conversation. Could a handheld device introduce us to perfect strangers? Could Spotme break the ice just like these dogs?

1998, Prof. Roland Siegwart offered Spotme a seed platform at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL, home of Alinghi and Solar Impulse). It was Roland who first imagined Spotme as a service for meetings and events. EPFL's early support was crucial for Spotme to take shape (a demonstrator system was launched in January 2000 with IAPCO) and gain support from CTI, IMD, FIT, the PSE, several Swiss investors, ECAL, the Canton of Vaud and BCV.

When launched in 2001, Spotme was the first system of its kind. Its unrivaled utility and ease of use have made it a success with organizers and participants alike. 2007, the third generation of Spotme wins the EIBTM Worldwide Technology Watch Award, calling it the most important innovation in the meetings industry.

As a business, Spotme generates revenue from providing a turnkey service to corporations, commercial conference organizers and associations. Customers include FT Conferences, IIR, IMD, Siemens, Deloitte, Allergan, Nestlé, the European Venture Capital Association and the World Economic Forum. Spotme is represented locally by its worldwide offices.
